Ingredients
2 pounds lean ground beef
1 ½ cup diced white onion, divided
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water
2 (15 ounce) cans light kidney beans
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon garlic salt
2 tablespoons chili powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
1 pound dried thick spaghetti
Bottled chili sauce
Shredded Colby Jack cheese
Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and 1 cup of the onions until cooked, about 10 to 12 minutes. Drain onto a paper towel lined plate.
- In a large saucepan, add the cooked beef, celery salt, tomato sauce, water, beans, garlic powder, garlic salt, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir together, bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
- Add the tomato paste and simmer for ½ hour longer.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions.
- To prepare a serving: in a bowl add some of the pasta. Top with the chili, 2 tablespoons of the chili sauce and 1/2 cup of the cheese. Sprinkle with a few chopped onions. Add the Parmesan cheese if desired.
