Cusine: Asian

Ingredients

1 pound fresh broccoli, cut into small florets

1 cup beef broth

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons plum sauce

¼ teaspoon sesame oil

3 tablespoons cornstarch, divided

1 ½ pounds steak

¼ cup peanut oil

1 jalapeno, seeded thinly sliced

2 garlic cloves, crushed

2 green onions, white and tender parts, sliced

½ cup water

Directions

  1. In a large pot bring water to a boil. Add the broccoli and cook until tender-crisp, about 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the broth, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, plum sauce, sesame oil and 1 tablespoon cornstarch.
  3. Slice the steak across the grain into ¼ inch thick slices. Then cut slices into large bite-sized pieces. Toss with remaining cornstarch.
  4. In a large skillet heat the peanut oil over medium-high heat. Add the jalapeno, garlic, and green onion; cook about 2 minutes, then add the steak and cook 2 minutes more, steak will be barely pink. Remove to a plate and discard the excess oil.
  5. Add the broth mixture to the skillet and cook until thickened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the meat and broccoli. Heat until cooked though, about 3 minutes. Can be served with white rice.
